Round number two of the UCI Downhill World Cup 2016 is in the books and this one was completely different to Lourdes two weeks ago.
While Lourdes surprised everyone with low temperatures and rain, Cairns treated us well.
In a shocking turn of events during cyclone season, the track was almost completely dry, with the dirt in hero mode and with maximum grip.
Due to his latest injury, Matt Walker stayed in Europe but this wouldn’t hold back Greg.
The young Scotsman is known for his performance in the wet but here in Cairns he stepped up his game in the dust.
With an 8th place finish in the timed training and a 17th in the seeding, Greg felt prepared for the “Rumble in the jungle“.
Dropping in at 15:36 local time Greg managed to ride down a solid run which lead him to the hot seat for quite a long time.
In the end he finished at the 6th position.
1. Loic Bruni 3:23.696
2. Troy Brosnan 3:24.189
3. Mick Hannah 3:24.620
4. Aaron Gwin 3:26.648
5. Joshua Button 3:27.480
6. Greg Williamson 3:27.536
